This is a reading edition of the Book of Mormon. The original text is preserved exactly, but it has been reformatted into shorter sense-lines that follow natural pauses in speech. This makes the text easier to read aloud, easier to follow visually, and more accessible for people who are learning English or encountering the Book of Mormon for the first time.
Tap the menu icon at the top left to open the navigation panel, where you can jump to any book, chapter, or verse. Tap the gear icon at the top right to open reading settings. Everything is designed to stay out of your way until you need it.
Reading Settings
Modern words
Old-fashioned or archaic words are swapped for modern equivalents (for example, "wherefore" becomes "therefore," "unto" becomes "to"). The original word is always preserved underneath — tap any underlined word to see it. You can quickly toggle this on or off with the "Modern" button in the top bar.
Listen
Shows an audio player at the bottom of the screen for the current chapter. Press play to hear the chapter narrated aloud while the text highlights line by line. The player has play/pause, skip, and speed controls (0.75x to 2x). Tap any line while narration is active to jump to that point in the audio. When a chapter ends, the next one starts automatically.
Section headings
Adds section headings throughout the text. These short, descriptive titles mark natural breaks in the narrative or teaching — like chapter titles in a novel. They help you see the structure of each book and understand where one thought ends and the next begins.
Verse numbers
Small superscript verse numbers are shown by default to help you locate specific verses. Turn this off for a cleaner reading experience that lets the text flow without interruption — useful when you want to read a chapter as a continuous passage rather than verse by verse. Your preference is remembered.
Text size
Choose Small, Medium, or Large to adjust the reading text size to your preference.
Other Features
Search
The magnifying glass icon opens full-text search across the entire Book of Mormon. Searching "pray" also finds "praying" and "prayed." Use quotes for exact phrases, Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), parentheses for grouping like "(faith OR believe) AND repent," and NEAR for proximity searches. Operator buttons below the search bar make these easy to use on mobile. Results are grouped by book, and tapping a result jumps to that verse.
Book introductions
Open the navigation panel and tap a book name in the left column to read a brief introduction explaining who the narrator is and what to expect.
Starred notes
A small colored star before a word or phrase means a brief note is available — tap the phrase to read it. Notes cover place names, cultural practices, historical references, and word meanings that modern readers may not recognize.
